Point 01

"Hakasean" Experience the Harmony of Nature and Tradition

Having traveled around the world quite a bit when I was younger, I believe that what leaves a lasting impression on me during my travels are the casual conversations I have with the locals.
"Ichigo Ichie'' is a famous saying in tea ceremony and means "a once-in-a-lifetime encounter.'' In order for you to feel this, at the beginning of each experience at Hakusei-an,
1. Brief self-introduction
And in the end
2. Impressions
We would like to hear from you.
However, communication is not necessarily carried out through words alone; there is also "communication that can be felt''.
I believe that calligraphy, flower arrangement, tea ceremony, incense ceremony, which symbolize Japanese culture, as well as sutra copying and zazen, are all types of "dialogue'' unique to Japan.

“Dialogue” with carefully handcrafted vessels

communion with nature

Please sharpen your five senses and enjoy the silent "dialogue".
At Hakusei-an, even after the experience is over and the instructor has left, you can stay for about an hour so that you can soak in the afterglow and relax.
Our instructors are all people who have been studying the subject for decades. We provide translators for language difficulties, but through trial and error, we try to overcome the language barrier, which is difficult to communicate, and learn about the "world of sensibilities'' that lies beyond words, and the "world of sensibilities'' that are common to people all over the world. We believe that you will be able to enjoy special communication that allows you to feel the important values.

Point 02

The foundation of Japanese culture

The Japanese archipelago has been blessed with a temperate and relatively calm nature since the beginning of time, and it is believed that a culture was formed based on belief in the gods of nature (animism).
Many ideas have been put into how to incorporate nature into our lives while maintaining harmony with it.
Traditional Japanese architecture, which is built using earth and wood, is a typical example of this, and a series of techniques have been developed to bring the outside nature inside.
The basic attitude of harmonizing with and incorporating "nature as the other'' overlaps with the provision to welcome the "customer as the other'' within.

Point 03

Calligraphy, tea ceremony, flower arrangement, incense, sutra copying, and zazen

I believe that each of these symbols of Japanese culture is a comprehensive art that is interconnected, and that what they have in common is "dialogue with others."
A number of facilities are provided to entertain guests within the context of traditional Japanese architecture. Even if no words are exchanged there, the spirit of respect for the guests dwells in the details. We hope that each customer can read this with their own sensibilities.

Pursuit of the beauty of flowers. It is said that the origin of flower arrangement lies in animism dating back to ancient times.

茶道

The pursuit of beauty in behavior and style. The aim is to create a sense of unity between the host and the guest, a "heart-to-heart dialogue.''

It requires a highly honed sensibility to "listen" to scents. It is an advanced hobby of listening to the voice of nature through the scent of fragrant wood that has a soul, becoming one with nature, and facing oneself.

坐禅
坐禅

The culture of "Zen'' such as sutra copying and zazen held at "Ichijoji'' is "from others to oneself.'' It will take you into a deep spiritual world.

Point 04

On a rainy day

I believe everyone who came here wanted to enjoy the spectacular view of Mt. Fuji, but unfortunately there are only about half of the days in the year when you can see the entire view of Mt. Fuji.
Even on a rainy day when you can't see Mt. Fuji, you can listen to the sound of the rain and wind in a traditional Japanese architecture that does not completely block out the sounds, and surrender to the deep Japanese culture that lies beyond. Would you like to try it?
